Purpose. The report a line leader or supervisor completes at the end of every shift to hand production, quality and safety status to the next shift.

1.Purpose

The shift handover report is the record that lets the incoming shift start safely and without losing information. It is completed by the outgoing line leader, reviewed face to face with the incoming line leader and filed by the production office. Every line at every site completes one per shift.

2.Production status

Record the batches run, the batch currently on the line and its stage, the schedule position against plan, and any batch on hold. State the next batch and any changeover required at the start of the incoming shift.

3.Quality and food safety

Record every critical control point deviation, every non-conformance raised and every product placed on hold during the shift with its register number. State whether all monitoring records have been completed and verified.

4.Equipment and maintenance

Record any breakdown, maintenance request raised, equipment running with a known fault, and any machine locked out and why. The incoming shift must not start a machine that is locked out without contacting maintenance.

5.People and safety

Record any incident, near miss or hazard, any first aid, staffing changes and any person new to the line. Record the toolbox talk topic delivered.

6.Handover

Both line leaders sign the report after walking the line together. Any item that the incoming leader disputes must be resolved before the outgoing leader leaves.
